The show’s costume designer shares his thoughts on the individual style of the characters.

“Our manifesto was to make our show the representation of Southern California style,” Frank Helmer, “90210’s” costume designer, recently told the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s not just pulling whatever the latest fashion page is and putting it on the screen, although that’s part of it. It’s also interpreting it for each of the characters, which is the main thing I do as a costume designer.”

Helmer said he bases the looks of “fashionista” Naomi Clark (played by AnnaLynne McCord), “All-American” Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes), “risk-taking” Erin “Silver” Silver (Jessica Stroup), and “classic-retro” Adrianna Tate-Duncan (Jessica Lowndes) on real girls. 

“It is translating Southern California to the screen for the world to see. It’s super exciting,” said Helmer.
